Keeping in line with the spirit of Interrail, train travel is relaxed and organised in Austria, you can just hop on and off most of the local and regional trains.
Reservations:
Not all of Austria's trains require reservations but some do. We highly recommend that you check reservation requirments for trains in Austria in this section and make any reservations before you travel.
Reservations are required for:
We would recommend making a reservation, if you are intending to use any of the following trains in Austria:
- Night trains: Reservations are required for night trains in Austria.
- International high-speed trains: Reservations are required for international high-speed trains.
- InterCity high-speed trains: Reservations are possible but not required for Railjet (RJ) and InterCityExpress (ICE) high speed trains.
- National & International trains: Reservations are possible but not required on EuroCity and InterCity (EC/IC) trains.
