But to give you piece of mind, we recommend that you make sure you understand everything there is to know about seat reservations and supplements on trains in Portugal before you travel.

Alfa Pendular (AP): Reservations are required for these high-speed trains
InterCidades (IC): Reservations are required for these intercity trains.

Reservations are not required for:

The following trains in Portugal do not need you to make a reservation:

InterRegional (IR) & Regional (R): Reservations are not required for these regional trains.
Urbanos: Reservations are not required for these commuter trains.
